What's wrong with the picture? The guys on the left and the guys on the right are appalling. How dare they! Jesus and his apostles never dressed like that.

So according to the bible, "believing" is enough to have everlasting life.
by NikL ini am certain this has been brought up many times before.
according to john 6.... 44 no man can come to me unless the father, who sent me, draws him,+ and i will resurrect him on the last day.+ 45 it is written in the prophets: âthey will all be taught by jehovah.+ everyone who has listened to the father and has learned comes to me.
46 not that any man has seen the father,+ except the one who is from god; this one has seen the father.+ 47 most truly i say to you, whoever believes has everlasting life.+.

Belief, faith, hope, be like sheep, resurrection of the spirit, reward in the afterlife...
Definitely a scam!

"Forced" study with an Elder - The first question i will pose, help appreciated.
by CitizenofEarth inhello folks.
as some of you might know my dad couldnt keep quiet about my view of the world, so i have been "forced" to study with an elder.
otherwise i would be dragged to questioning, which is to much pressure for a young inexperienced person like me.

Have fun! No sarcasm or irony intended.
Do your research secretly, but play along. Use the "Bible" study as an entertainment moment or perhaps a study of the mind of cult members. That's what I have done in the last five years. It certainly will be an education that can be useful in the years to come to shield you from propaganda and cults.
I am not asking you to sacrifice your truthfulness. You keep that, but don't waste it, or even harm yourself, by having a candid conversation with an elder.
Just have fun knowing that you know far more than your teacher. However, you want to play dumb, very dumb, and perhaps drag the study to frustrate your "teacher". "Be stupid enough to not understand" and therefore be able to say that you are not ready for baptism, or pioneering, or anything that consumes your valuable time. Just don't play smart. that's not good at this time.

It's been some time since I read a Watchtower magazine. What a ride!! The article before (Be happy by enslaving to the GB) and the article after (GT and firearms) the propaganda article are also filled to bursting capacity with propaganda.
These guys are shameless, absolutely shameless!

And then this (the irony and hypocrisy are off the charts):
"What is propaganda? In this context, it is the use of biased or misleading information to manipulate the way people think and act. Some equate propaganda with âlies, distortion, deceit, manipulation, mind control, [and] psychological warfareâ and associate it with âunethical, harmful, and unfair tactics.ââPropaganda and Persuasion."
"How dangerous is propaganda? It is insidiousâlike an invisible, odorless, poisonous gasâand it seeps into our consciousness. Because we may not see propaganda for what it is, behavior specialist Vance Packard observed: âMany of us are being influenced and manipulatedâfar more than we realize.â Under its influence, says one scholar, men and women have been âquite easily led into the most preposterously dangerous behaviourââsuch as âgenocide, war, racist hysteria, religious intolerance and many other forms of irrational behaviour.ââEasily LedâA History of Propaganda."

John,
Science and religion are entirely different animals. Science deal with the physical universe where evidence can be gathered, observed and analyzed by everyone (objectivity). Religion is a personal thing in the individual's brain and lacks any evidence, just emotional appeal (subjectivity). Comparison of religion and science is only adequate when you contrast them, not when trying to find similarities.
If religious people such as yourself despise "scientism" so much and love "God" so much, why do they search for the best doctor when struck with cancer or any other chronic disease? Wouldn't it be better to go to your favorite pastor and get a quick cure in exchange for a small donation to the church?

Why would an omnibenevolent and omniscient god put us through tests of faith?
Easy. God wrote a novel and needs the visuals of every page of his novel. He knows the end, but wants the movie version. Bring the popcorn!
Even Shakespeare knew this: "All the world is a stage"

Simon... but they are still additional crimes, with victims that otherwise wouldn't be
Assuming the conclusions from the Pew study are reliable,
If most illegal aliens are presently employed, but later removed, then the crime rate will go up once they are replaced by a cross section of the population or legal immigrants.
If they are not replaced and the economy shrinks instead, you still have a higher crime rate than before the removal of illegal aliens. So your argument doesn't hold.

Thank you Doug. I usually avoid the Greek scriptures because they seem less interesting than the Hebrew writings, but you have piqued my interest lately.
